I've only read a thing here or there from Aaron but everything I have, I've enjoyed.

After having read the final issue of Destroyer, I'd like to recommend it as one of my favorite books of the year. Writing, art, colors... kudos all around. Can't wait to own the trade.

Destroyer kicks ASS!!!!!!! Last issue was awesome and funny as hell. Still my favorite issue is number 3. I have never read such a bloody, gruesome comic before. Awesome stuff... "EAT IT!!! EAT IT!!!!"

I agree. That's one of my all time favorite issues of a comic. My only complaint about the series is that it could have easily been a creator owned book. I understand these guys need to make a living, but if it had been their own thing we could have seen more Destroyer down the road. Now it's not near as likely.

Cory's one of the very best in comics. He just needs to pump up his body of work and people will recognize.

And it's a shame Kirkman's best Marvel book (by miles) drops a year after he left the fold.

Great stuff.

Thing is Destroyer was never going to be Kirkman's. That's a character from way back in the WWII days. Honestly I think he covers most of the same ground with Brit, and with more time to do it. That said, Destroyer's costume kicks way more ass with the Walker makeover.

Well... let's be real. They could've done almost the exact same book with a title and costume change for Image, and owned it. The conceit for Kirkman was to treat it as if the 40's Destroyer comic was never cancelled, but that was all it was-- a creative conceit. It's not like it's a character that anybody had ever really heard of, or that Marvel would have brought him back without Kirkman pitching it to them. I wasn't even aware of the character's history until I'd already read four issues, and frankly didn't need to know anything about it to enjoy the book.

I can totally understand doing it for Marvel, though, as A) you can get paid a rate; B) the conceit of using a dormant Marvel character is something you can hang a little marketing on; and C) it's obscure enough to still allow some creative freedom.

Agreed, though oddly enough I actually knew about Destroyer long before the book came out, so the reference was pretty direct for me. As for doing a similar concept for Image, again I feel like e did do that concept for the most part with Brit. Perhaps it wasn't with the revenge plot, but if you're talking aging war hero with superpowers, that's old hat to Kirkman.

What did everybody get this Week, 1-20-10?

I picked up RASL #6, Joe the Barbarian #1 and Starman #81.

Sean Gordon Murphy's art in JtB is off the fuckin' chain. I love it.
